We Create The Conditions That Condition Us

In collaboration with Elena Katsulis together, we laid on the floor at the threshold of the entrance to the building. Our arms outstretched above our head and tied together with rope. We explore the idea that we are conditioned beings, what we come in contact with is a condition of our existence and how we engage in each other is also conditional and contingent upon the other person’s engagement, investment, and reciprocity. This durational performance was an exploration of our relationships to each other, public spaces, thresholds, and the implications of an impaired body and the prone human (female) body. The mutual decision to end became necessary when the passing of time alters the between two conditional beings. We are tied together and positioned in front of the entrance to the Pozen Center for three hours, at which point, the audience intervened massaging and warming our tied hands and shivering bodies. From there, they felt compelled to untie the rope and set us free - ending the performance.
