Test Drive

In collaboration with Elena Katsulis, this two-hour performance took place within the threshold of a doorway, where we lay on two mirrors faced down, our arms tied above our heads with red rope. The mirrors reflected both our gazes and the world above, implicating observers as participants through their own reflections and creating a dynamic interplay between surface, depth, and perception.

This work explored themes of confinement and mutuality, passivity and agency, as well as the reciprocal gaze between subject and object. The reflective surfaces acted as both barriers and conduits, disrupting the boundary between interiority and exteriority. Over the course of the performance, the gradual loosening of the rope binding our wrists allowed us to eventually free ourselves and sit up, shifting the dynamics of the space and the relationships within it.
